Description
- Serial-in, Parallel-out: The SN74HC595 takes in data serially (one bit at a time) and then outputs that data in parallel (all bits at once).
- 3-State Outputs: The outputs can be in one of three states: high, low, or high-impedance (tri-state), which allows multiple devices to share the same output lines.
- Wide Operating Voltage: It operates from 2V to 6V, making it compatible with a range of logic levels.
- High-Current Outputs: The outputs can source or sink up to 6mA, allowing them to drive LEDs or other low-power components directly.
- Low Power Consumption: It’s a CMOS device, so it consumes very little power, typically 80µA.
- Shift Register with Direct Clear: The shift register has a clear input that resets all bits to 0.
- Cascadable: Multiple SN74HC595s can be cascaded together to create longer shift registers.
